Mouth Cancer Screening & Awareness.

A fundamental part of all of our dental examinations at Bingham Dental is screening for mouth cancer.

Mouth cancer is the 14th most common cancer in the UK and the number of people being diagnosed with mouth cancer has unfortunately increased by 103% in the last 20 years. Detecting mouth cancer early increases the chances of survival from 50% to 90%, therefore early detection is key, and so too, the importance of regular dental examinations.

Fortunately, mouth cancer screening is a comfortable and unobtrusive process that will help to promote your general wellness. Our dentist will firstly gently feel around your neck and underneath your chin to check for any abnormalities associated with your salivary glands, and to check for any enlarged lymph nodes which may be associated with disease.

Our team will then thoroughly assess the soft tissues inside your mouth for any abnormalities, lumps, or bumps - most of which are likely to be harmless. If we do recognise something that concerns us, usually red, white, or speckled patches, we’ll let you know what we’ve seen and either arrange to see you again in a few days time for a review, or refer you promptly to a hospital-based specialist.
